New Delhi: MS Dhoni and Gautam Gambhir's possible reunion in India's coaching setup for the T20 World Cup 2026 could be worth watching for the fans. The reports of Dhoni-Gambhir's partnership have created buzz among former players despite the World Cup being held next year.
Dhoni and Gambhir's partnership in the Indian jersey achieved major heights in their playing days, including two World Cup triumphs. It will be engaging to witness the duo if they link up for the global event after they retire from the Indian team.
Former Indian batter Manoj Tiwary added some spice to the debate as he believed that if Dhoni and Gambhir come together for a global event, then it will be interesting to watch the duo on the ground in their new roles.
“Did he even pick up the phone? It’s tough to get through to him because he rarely answers calls or even replies to messages. The real question is whether he would accept the role. But if he does, his experience as a captain and a player will be invaluable. The younger players coming into the team have huge respect for him. A Gambhir-Dhoni combination on the coaching bench will be worth watching.” Manoj Tiwary stated on ANI.
Tiwary highlighted the point that Dhoni's experience as a skipper and a player could prove to be profitable for the team. Former player also joked about Dhoni's habit of not keeping his mobile phone with him and rarely answering calls and messages.
If the reports are true and Dhoni joins the coaching staff, it would not be the first time for him in the mentorship role, as previously, in the T20 World Cup 2021 in the UAE, he served as India's mentor when Ravi Shastri was the head coach of the Indian team.
But the addition of Dhoni in the coaching set-up couldn't help the side at all as India were knocked out of the World Cup in the group stage.
