WPL: Lanning, Litchfield sizzle as UP Warriorz bag second successive win against Mumbai Indians

WPL: Mumbai will next play against Delhi Capitals while UP Warriorz lock horns with Gujarat Giants in their next contest.

New Delhi: Meg Lanning and Phoebe Litchfield starred with the bat while Shikha Pandey excelled with the ball as UP Warriorz bagged their second successive win against Mumbai Indians in the Women's Premier League 2026. Both Lanning and Litchfield slammed brilliant half-centuries to help the UP side score a competitive 187/8 in the stipulated 20 overs, which the Indians failed to chase.

Despite a brilliant stand of 83 runs between Amelia Kerr and Amanjot Kaur for the sixth wicket, Mumbai fell short of 22 runs towards the end as the score seemed to be huge and he UP bowling pitch perfect. Apart from Shikha, who played a major role in containing the side with regular scalps and economical spell, other bowlers in the line up shared four wickets between them to constantly dent Mumbai in the chase.

Lanning and Litchfield lead sensation recovery

After winning UP were put into bat first, Lanning and Litchfield led a sensational recovery for the side after they lost their opener Kiran Navgire for a golden duck in the very first over. While skipper Lanning scored 70 runs off 45 balls which included 11 fours and 2 sixes, Litchfield wax equally impactful in the first innings scoring 61 off just 37 balls studded with 7 fours and 3 sixes.

Harleen Deol also chipped in with 25 runs while for Mumbai, Kerr claimed three wickets while Nat Sciver-Brunt picked up two wickets. Other bowlers in the queue also contributed with a wicket each but failed to contain the two UP batters who were flawless during their batting, helping their side finish strongly.

For Mumbai during the chase, Kerr was the highest scorer with 49 runs while Amanjot scored 41 runs to bring the side close to the target but they eventually fell short due to lack of support from other batters. Mumbai will next play against Delhi Capitals while UP lock horns with Gujarat Giants in their next contest.
