I feel ashamed: Pep Guardiola apologises for confrontation with cameraman after Newcastle defeat
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has apologised for his confrontation with a cameraman after his side's defeat against Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola apologised for his actions after clashing with a cameraman following his side's 2-1 defeat against Newcastle United in the Premier League. Harvey Barnes bagged a brace to help Newcastle register a thumping win at St James Park and derail City's title chase.
Barnes scored the opener for Newcastle in the 64th minute to give them the lead at home. However, their lead was cancelled out by Ruben Dias four minutes later. Barnes scored again in the 70th minute to put Newcastle back in the lead, and his goal was enough to secure all three points for the Magpies.
Guardiola was involved in an altercation with a cameraman at St James Park after City's defeat against Newcastle United. The Manchester City boss admitted he is not proud of his actions and felt ashamed when he watched the replay of the footage of his altercation. The Spanish manager admitted he was embarrassed and ashamed.
"I feel embarrassed, ashamed when I see it. I don’t like it. I apologised after one second to the cameraman," Guardiola said, apologising for his actions.
"But I am who I am. After 1,000 games I’m not a perfect person, I make huge mistakes. It’s not about that though – what is for sure, I defend any team and my club – and that is the reason for it, no doubt," he added.
Manchester City's loss against Newcastle meant Arsenal gained a seven-point lead at the top of the table after beating Tottenham Hotspur in their last game. City had a chance to stay on track in the title race with a win against Newcastle, however, the 2-1 defeat might hurt their chances this season.
While Arsenal are at the top of the Premier League table with 29 points from 12 matches, City are currently third with 22 points from as many games. Though he has not given up on hopes of plotting a title charge, Guardiola admitted his team needs to have close to 98-100 points to win the Premier League.
"From my experience to win the Premier League we have to do 100 points, 98 points, otherwise we don’t win it. That’s for sure," said the Spanish manager, who has won six Premier League titles with Manchester City since joining the club in 2016.
