New Delhi: Manchester United's head coach Ruben Amorim insisted that his players proved that they are behind their under-pressure manager after the club's dominant 2-0 win against Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Coming into the must-win match, Amorim had overseen nine Premier League victories in 33 games since taking charge in November, with some of the fans turning on the Portuguese manager after a frustrating start to the new season.

The supporters were behind Amorim on Saturday and sang his name, as goals from Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko earned the Red Devils a comfortable victory that moved them provisionally up to eighth spot, level on 10 points with rivals Manchester City, who play on Sunday against Brentford.

'I know the players want to do their best'

After the win, the Portuguese manager said that he knows the players want to do their best, and he also knows they don’t want to change the coach.

"But like I said (to the players) during this week, 'I will kill myself to do anything in every transition'. (The team) need to show that with their actions,".

Amorim further added that when they look at their team, he sometimes knows for sure that, in the end, the players can see that they can do better.

After a comfortable win, Amorim will look to win consecutive matches for the first time as United boss. However, the international break means that he will have to wait more than two weeks for the next game, which is against champions Liverpool on Sunday, 19 October.

"There is no momentum with our team. We know what happens when we win one game, the frustration is not to see the same team at home and away," Amorim added.

The head coach also said that if they cannot play well, they must stop the opposition from playing well, and that’s the way a big team plays during the season.
