New Delhi: Blinkit has rolled out a new feature that lets users hide age-restricted or sensitive products on its app, a move aimed at making grocery browsing safer for families. The feature, announced by CEO Albinder Dhindsa on X (Twitter), allows customers to set up parental controls directly in their profile settings.
The company said this will prevent items such as sexual wellness products and nicotine-based items from appearing while children or other family members browse the app. For households where multiple people use the same device, the feature could help parents avoid uncomfortable situations or accidental exposure.
According to Dhindsa, the new controls let users place sensitive products behind a PIN code. In addition, customers can add a recovery phone number, ensuring they don’t lose access if they forget the PIN. Once enabled, these items won’t just be hidden from search results and browsing, but will also disappear from order history.
That last part is a big change. If guests or kids open the order history, they won’t see these purchases listed at all. This gives users greater privacy over their shopping records and prevents unintended exposure of personal purchases.
India’s quick commerce apps are increasingly being used by families, often with shared devices. While grocery and essentials are the main draw, categories like wellness products, alcohol mixers, and nicotine products have grown in popularity. That mix can sometimes create friction when kids or guests browse the same app.
