New Delhi: IBM has announced a proficient skills development initiative in India, devoted to instructing 5 million learners in Artificial Intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and quantum computing by 2030. The programme will be implemented based on IBM SkillsBuild and designed to equip the young generation and workforce in India to meet new technology-related job opportunities.
The programme aims at increasing the availability of superior digital skills within the school, universities and vocational institutions. It is consistent with the international strategy of IBM, which is to develop a more inclusive and future workforce, and also it places India in the centre of the global vision of IBM, which is to train 30 million people globally by the end of 2010.
IBM, as part of the initiative, will collaborate with academic/skilling institutions such as the All India Council on Technical Education (AICTE). Such partnerships will assist in practical learning by introducing AI-orientated curriculum, faculty development, hackathons and internship programmes, which will facilitate the gap between education and industry demands.
IBM claimed that such an endeavour will reinforce the applied learning pathways and make educators prepared to teach the advanced technologies on a large scale. It will concentrate on practical uses of AI, cybersecurity and quantum computing.
IBM Chairman, President and CEO Arvind Krishna indicated that India has the capability and desire to become a global leader in frontier technologies. He observed that the knowledge of AI and quantum computing in the forthcoming years will play a crucial role in economic development, science, and social revolution.
This dedication, according to Krishna, portrays the ideology of IBM about democratising access to the advanced skills in young people to enable them to innovate and like to contribute to the digital future of India.
The school level is enhancing the AI readiness of IBM. The company is co-creating AI curriculum for senior secondary students and resources like an AI Project Cookbook, teacher handbooks and module explainers.
The tools are meant to expose young learners to concepts of computational thinking and responsible AI and allow teachers to teach AI without fear.
IBM SkillsBuild, a free learning platform composed of over 1,000 courses covering AI, cybersecurity, quantum, cloud, data, sustainability and workplace skills, is at the core of the initiative. As of 2017, SkillsBuild has more than 16 million learners worldwide, and India is now considered one of the main drivers of growth in the long-term IBM skilling strategy.
