New Delhi: Meta is preparing a second major rollout in the area of artificial intelligence, and two new AI models are said to be being prepared under the codenames Mango and Avocado. The decision follows the splash made by the CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, in the tech sector in an aggressive talent acquisition spurt, attracting the leading AI researchers to Meta in the last few months.
Reportedly, Meta is going to release Mango and Avocado, image and video creation and text-based models, respectively, all powered by AI. Both will arrive in the first half of 2026. It was talked about by the Chief AI Officer of Meta, Alexander Wang, in an internal question-and-answer with the Chief Product Officer, Chris Cox, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
Meta has long been identified with open-source AI with its Llama family of models. Mango might be an indication of the intensive change in that philosophy. It is indicated that Meta might retain this new model closed, and monetisation will be used as a key aspect.
Access to Mango will not be as large as it was previously. Paid plans are also probable, and this will directly compete with these premium products like OpenAI Sora and the new Gemini products introduced by Google.
Mango is not supposed to be another picture or video generator. Leaks argue that the model has a better grasp of actual physics in the world due to advanced data analysis in pictures. This may enable it to generate more realistic and situational images.
It is also claimed that the text-to-video option is an outstanding feature. Insiders believe that Mango can perform better than a large number of tools that can translate written prompts to high-quality video content.
Meta’s timing is challenging. OpenAI was ahead of the pack earlier in the year, and Google was not far behind, making rapid releases and achieving good performance. Perplexity also has found a niche in the AI race.
It will not be easy to penetrate this congested area. Nevertheless, in the case of Mango and Avocado, Meta is sending signals that it is serious about being a competitor. It will not be obvious whether it can regain the leadership until these models are publicised.
