New Delhi: Apple has introduced the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, calling them the most advanced Pro models yet. The launch took place on September 9 in Cupertino, California. Both devices bring a redesigned aluminum body, Apple’s new A19 Pro chip, stronger Ceramic Shield 2 protection, and major camera upgrades.

Apple’s focus was clear: performance, battery life, and durability. The company is also aiming these models at creative professionals with advanced video tools.

A19 Pro chip and thermal improvements

At the heart of both phones is the A19 Pro, which Apple says is its most powerful iPhone chip so far. According to the company, the new processor can deliver up to 40 percent better sustained performance than the A18 Pro. To handle the extra heat, Apple has used a vapor chamber system welded into the aluminum chassis.

Apple explained that this design moves heat into the unibody structure, keeping the device cooler during heavy workloads like gaming or video editing. The iPhone 17 Pro Max also benefits from a larger battery, and the company claims it offers the “best battery life ever in an iPhone.” Fast charging is supported, with 50 percent charge in 20 minutes using the new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter priced at $39 (around ₹3,400).

Display upgrades and durability

The iPhone 17 Pro comes in two sizes: 6.3 inches and 6.9 inches. The Super Retina XDR display now reaches 3000 nits of peak outdoor brightness, which is double the contrast outdoors compared to last year.

For protection, Apple has introduced Ceramic Shield 2 on both the front and back. The company says this material is three times more scratch resistant and four times stronger against cracks than the previous glass back.

Camera system with 8x optical zoom

Apple has added three 48MP Fusion rear cameras: Main, Ultra Wide, and a new Telephoto. The Telephoto lens now supports 4x optical zoom at 100mm and up to 8x optical zoom at 200mm, the longest reach ever on an iPhone.

On the front, there is an 18MP Center Stage camera that automatically adjusts the field of view during selfies and video calls. Apple demonstrated how it can switch between portrait and landscape, expanding for group shots.

For video, the Pro models now support ProRes RAW, Apple Log 2, and genlock — features usually used in film production to sync multiple cameras. This is part of Apple’s push to position the iPhone as a professional tool for creators.

Price, availability, and storage options

The iPhone 17 Pro starts at ₹1,34 lakh, while the iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at ₹1.49 lakh. Pre-orders open on September 12, and availability begins September 19 in India and more than 60 other countries.

Storage starts at 256GB, with the Pro Max offering up to 2TB for the first time. The devices will be available in three new colors: deep blue, cosmic orange, and silver.
