In a statement, the Pakistan Army said, “Under a Royal Decree issued by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the King Abdulaziz Medal (Excellent Class), the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s highest national honour, was conferred upon the Field Marshal on Monday.”

Acting on the directive of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Saudi Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman presented the medal to Field Marshal Asim Munir, acknowledging his contributions to enhancing bilateral cooperation and advancing Saudi–Pakistan relations.

Expressing his gratitude, Field Marshal Munir thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the Saudi leadership for the honour, describing it as a reflection of the enduring and close ties between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.

Towards stronger relations

In his address, Prince Khalid bin Salman reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the security, stability, and prosperity of the Kingdom. During the engagement, Field Marshal Munir also extended an invitation to Prince Khalid bin Salman during his official visit to the Kingdom.

The meeting witnessed discussions on matters of mutual interest, including regional security dynamics, defence and military cooperation, strategic collaboration, and evolving geopolitical challenges.

How will it impact India?

The honour conferred on Field Marshal Asim Munir is also significant for India, as it underscores the deepening strategic alignment between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan at a time of shifting regional geopolitics. New Delhi closely tracks Riyadh–Islamabad ties due to their implications for South Asian security dynamics, counterterrorism cooperation, and defence engagements in the Gulf.

While Saudi Arabia has steadily expanded its partnership with India in recent years, the recognition highlights Riyadh’s continued balancing act between two key regional players, making diplomatic signalling and strategic outreach increasingly important for India.
