New Delhi: Former Indian Premier League (IPL) chairman Lalit Modi hosted an upscale pre-birthday party in London for fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya. The celebration was held at Lalit Modi’s Belgrave Square residence. Biocon founder Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw also attended it.
Photographer Jim Rydell was also among the guests. He posted a photograph of Modi and Mallya on X with a caption: “Thank you to Lalit K Modi for hosting a fabulous pre-70th Birthday party in honour of Vijay Mallya last night at his beautiful London Home.”
In response, Lalit Modi said, “Thank you all for coming and celebrating my friend Vijay Mallya's pre-birthday bash at my house.”
Rydell also gave a glimpse of the celebration on Instagram by sharing the event’s invitation card. The invite went like this: “Rima (Bouri) and Lalit invite you to a glamorous evening in honour of their dear friend Vijay Mallya, celebrating the king of good times.” The card had a cartoon-style depiction of the former airline tycoon.
Photographs from the celebration showed a gathering of well-known personalities from a mix of fields. Actor Idris Elba and fashion designer Manoviraj Khosla were among those who attended the event. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw featured in two images — one posing with Khosla and another while talking with Elba.
Earlier, Lalit Modi marked his 63rd birthday with a lavish celebration in London. It was attended by close friends, including Vijay Mallya. The celebration took place at the exclusive Maddox Club. Earlier this year, Lalit Modi and Mallya were also spotted together at a private karaoke evening. The evening was hosted by Lalit Modi, which reportedly had more than 300 guests, including West Indian cricketer Chris Gayle.
At present, both Lalit Modi and Mallya reside in the United Kingdom and remain embroiled in a number of financial and regulatory cases in India. They have been denying the allegations levelled against them and continue to legally challenge the charges.
