Few haunted houses have captured the public imagination like the infamous Amityville Horror House in Long Island, New York. The story began in 1974 when Ronald DeFeo Jr. murdered six members of his family in the house at 112 Ocean Avenue.
Just over a year later, George and Kathy Lutz moved in with their children—only to flee 28 days later, claiming the house was plagued by terrifying paranormal activity.
The Lutz family reported extreme cold spots, green slime oozing from walls, disembodied voices, and levitating furniture. George claimed he would wake up at exactly 3:15 a.m.—the time of the DeFeo murders—and was haunted by a demonic pig-like creature with glowing red eyes. Their story was chronicled in Jay Anson’s 1977 book The Amityville Horror, which became a bestseller and inspired a series of movies, documentaries, and paranormal investigations.
One of the most viral elements of the case involves a now-famous photograph taken during an investigation by famed paranormal researchers Ed and Lorraine Warren. The photo appears to show a young boy with glowing eyes peeking out from a doorway inside the empty house. It’s often shared online as "proof" of ghostly presence and has fueled debates for decades.
