Trump announces Massive oil partnership with Pakistan, says Islamabad might sell to ‘India some day’
US President Donald Trump has announced a Washington-Islamabad deal to develop Pakistan's "massive oil reserves". The US-Pak deal details remain unclear, but Trump suggested future oil sales to India as a possibility. The Trump administration also announced a 25% tariff on Indian goods from August 1, 2025.
Washington: After imposing a 25 per cent tariff on all goods coming from India starting August 1, US President Donald Trump announced that his government has finalised a deal with Pakistan to develop the South Asian nation’s "massive oil reserves”.
However, the US president did not specify any details like location or area in regards to the ‘massive oil reserves’ in Pakistan. Trump took to social media to mention that Pakistan could sell oil to India "some day”.
"We have just concluded a deal with the country of Pakistan, whereby Pakistan and the United States will work together on developing their massive oil reserves,” Trump said in a post on Truth Social on Wednesday (July 30, 2025).
Trump further said Washington is looking for an oil company which would be part of the US-Pakistan partnership to process the oil deal.
"We are in the process of choosing the oil company that will lead this partnership. Who knows, maybe they’ll be selling oil to India some day!” he added.
Currently, Pakistan imports oil from the Middle East to meet its energy demands, but there are reports about vast offshore deposits that are largely unexplored due to a lack of technical expertise and funds. The country has been trying to lure in investments to tap into these reserves.
What Trump said on social media post
"We are very busy in the White House today working on Trade Deals. I have spoken to the Leaders of many Countries, all of whom want to make the United States "extremely happy.” I will be meeting with the South Korean Trade Delegation this afternoon. South Korea is right now at a 25% Tariff, but they have an offer to buy down those Tariffs. I will be interested in hearing what that offer is.

Likewise, other Countries are making offers for a Tariff reduction. All of this will help reduce our Trade Deficit in a very major way. A full report will be released at the appropriate time. Thank you for your attention to this matter. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
