Kolkata: The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has released the recruitment notification for the teaching posts. It has released the West Bengal SSC recruitment 2025 notification for a total of 35,726 vacancies for the posts in state-run secondary and higher secondary schools across the state.
Aspirants who are eagerly awaiting the WBSSC Teacher recruitment 2025 notification can find it on the official website at westbengalss.com. All the candidates must note that there will be a 17 per cent OBC quota as per West Bengal's state reservation policy. This reservation is provided in addition to vacancies for general category candidates. The recruitment notice follows the recent Supreme Court's stay on a Calcutta High Court order, which had objected to the implementation of the state’s OBC policy in school teacher appointments.

Recalling WB's teacher recruitment row
The teacher recruitment drive in West Bengal was delayed due to legal disputes over 2016 State Level Selection Test (SLST), where the Supreme Court has declared around 26,000 appointments invalid in April 2025 due to irregularities. The verdict of the apex court has left thousands of teachers without jobs and leading to protests and roadblocks. Protesters keep agitating at various levels also opposed the fresh exams.
Amid protests, the WBSSC has decided to release the recruitment notification while incorporating the OBC reservation. The authorities say that the recruitment process is following the top court's order, and untainted teachers of the 2016 batch may continue their services till December 31, 2025.
