New Delhi: A major scheduled power cut will impact Bengaluru, specifically South Bengaluru on Wednesday. The power cuts are expected as the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) is set to conduct some important infrastructural upgrades on the day, according to a report in moneycontrol.com.
The BESCOM said that the electricity shutdown will happen between 10 am to 5 pm on Wednesday. Engineers are set to start essential maintenance at the Subramanyapura Power Station, said a statement from the electricity provider. This project is meant to upgrade transformers and also transmission lines. The engineers will work to replace old equipment and strengthen the broader 220/66/11 kV electricity network.
The main objective of this maintenance work is enhancing the 100 MW capacity line. This BESCOM said is important for load handling and would prevent future electricity supply breakdowns.
The electricity shutdown will majorly impact South Bengaluru residents. Those living in Banashankari, Padmanabhanagar, Kathriguppe, Kumaraswamy Layout, ISRO Layout, Uttarahalli, Chikkalasandra, Hosakerehalli, Girinagar, Srinagar, Gubbalala, Konanakunte, JP Nagar 6th & 7th Phase and Yelachenahalli and other surrounding areas will be impacted by the power cut on Wednesday.
Power cuts albeit for shorter periods were reported over the last weekend in Hullenahalli and Kalingayannapalya areas in the city. The power cuts were reportedly due to maintenance work being carried out in these areas by the electricity department.
BESCOM has already issued an advisory for people living in the areas where 7 hour power cuts are planned for the day. They have been advised to charge all their devices, like laptops and phones and also plan their day accordingly. They assured the residents that this temporary inconvenience is a small price to pay for the robust electricity supply chain that the city would receive after the maintenance and upgrade work is completed.
