Bengaluru: India's garden city has witnessed a significant fall in dengue cases this year, with only 1,676 infections recorded between January 1 and July 23, compared to 7,280 cases during the same period in 2024. The city’s civic body, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), has attributed the notable drop in dengue cases by over 75 per cent to sustained prevention measures and heightened surveillance.
According to the Karnataka health and family welfare department, no dengue-related fatalities have been reported so far in 2025, marking a notable improvement from recent years. In 2022, the city registered 2,313 cases without any deaths. However, 2023 saw cases rise sharply to 8,609, resulting in four deaths, followed by an alarming 14,950 infections and three related fatalities in 2024.

Coordinated campaign by BBMP leads to decline in dengue cases
This year’s reduction is credited to a coordinated campaign led by the BBMP, which involved intensified monitoring, targeted spraying operations and public awareness drives. Health officials were deployed in high-risk areas, particularly those prone to waterlogging, to take swift action and curb mosquito breeding.
The civic body also launched extensive outreach programmes in schools and local communities, educating residents on the importance of preventing water stagnation and eliminating breeding grounds.
Dengue control protocols to continue, despite drop in cases, ensures BBMP
By combining grassroots awareness initiatives with robust field interventions, officials have been able to contain the spread of the disease.
Despite the encouraging results, BBMP has emphasised that its dengue control measures will continue throughout the monsoon season to ensure sustained success and prevent any resurgence of cases.
