New Delhi: In a unique case, the Bengaluru Police have arrested a thief, who donated a part of his loot to temples across the country. The man identified as Aslam Pasha reportedly has over 150 theft cases registered against him. He was wanted by the police of 5 districts of Karnataka.
According to reports Pasha was a professional thief, who had been active in robbery for the past 20 years. He used to identify his targets, houses where he would commit theft, during the day and rob them at night. He had robbed homes in Bengaluru, Bengaluru Rural, Shivamogga, Haveri and Davangere districts.
Talking about his modus operandi, the police said that Pasha used to target homes where windows or doors were left unlocked. If a window was open and some women were sleeping on the nearby beds, the man would flee with the chains around their necks. In case the main door of some of the houses was next to the windows, he would break the glass of the window and then open the door of the house and commit theft.
The man would keep tabs of houses where lights had not been turned on at night and those which were empty. He would not commit theft within the limits of a police station which he had targeted once, for at least 1 year. He used to wait till the previous case was closed and the administration got a little relaxed and stopped looking for him, before returning to the area to rob another house.
One unique trait of Pasha was that after every theft he used to go to Ajmer Sharif dargah and put money in the hundi there. After offering his prayers there and sharing a part of the loot with God, the man used to go to Goa and splurge money there. He would return home after enjoying himself and give the rest of the money to his family. Pasha's parents have 5 children, 3 of whom are professional thieves.
The police have recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 22 lakhs from the accused. He is currently in jail in a theft case. The case was handled by the Vidyaranyapura police station, and they are carrying out further investigations in the matter.
