Bengaluru Police Commissioner receives bomb threat; airport, malls under high security

Bengaluru: Bengaluru city Police Commissioner Seemanth Kumar Singh received a bomb threat from Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Mohammed, prompting high alert in the city airport and other prominent areas. The police chief received the bomb threat through an email id that was mailed directly to him. The authorities subsequently classified the mail as hoax.

What the mail read

The mail received by the commissioner on November 30 read, “This is a warning from the Jaish-e-Mohammed white collar terror team.” According to the First Information Report (FIR) filed by police, it named specific targets: the international airport, Orion Mall, Lulu Mall, Forum South Mall and Mantri Square Mall.”

Security increased as a precautionary measure

“The investigation is currently ongoing as authorities work to trace the sender of the hoax threat email,” a senior officer told the paper. The security has been increased at the mentioned locations as a precautionary measure, even as operations are continuing normally through checks.

According to officials, the use of a proscribed terrorist organisation’s name has added a sinister dimension to the hoax. A team of cybercrime specialists are now examining the digital trail of the mail.
