Bengaluru: In a troubling incident that has raised fresh concerns about the safety of food delivery workers, a Zomato delivery agent was assaulted by two men in Bengaluru on Sunday, September 14 . The attack occurred near Shobha Theatre and was captured on camera, with the footage now circulating on social media, sparking widespread outrage.
According to the video, the delivery agent was confronted by the two men shortly after arriving at the location with a delayed order. Observers noted that one of the attackers, dressed in a light-coloured t-shirt, appeared intoxicated and was unsteady on his feet.
No formal complaint lodged
Police arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the incident and recorded statements from the delivery agent as well as the two suspects. Despite the severity of the assault, no formal First Information Report (FIR) has been filed by the victim at this stage.
The episode has reignited concerns over the working conditions and safety of delivery personnel in Bengaluru and across India. Food delivery services, including Zomato, rely on timely service, and while delays are often unavoidable, they have occasionally led to confrontations with customers.
Earlier this year, the issue of service standards had also attracted attention when a customer criticised Zomato for repeated failures in delivering an order. The complaint, shared on LinkedIn, highlighted gaps in accountability and customer experience, noting that even with AI-powered support and real-time tracking, service shortcomings persist. Zomato responded swiftly to the feedback, expressing disappointment over the experience and seeking further details to investigate the matter.
