Delhi to get its 3rd skywalk at THIS busy traffic spot in North West Delhi

New Delhi: To improve safety for people walking on the roads, the Public Works Department (PWD) is planning to build a new skywalk at Madhuban Chowk in North West Delhi. This is one of the busiest traffic points in the city and is known for frequent accidents. It is also listed among the top 10 accident-prone areas in the national capital. The area sees a huge crowd every day as it is close to Rohini court, Pitampura market, and a mall. Both vehicles and pedestrians often crowd the junction.

Earlier, the PWD had planned to build a foot overbridge of 800 meters in the area to connect the two Metro corridors of Pitampura. Now, they have changed the plan and are working on a skywalk instead. This new skywalk will link Rohini court directly to the Pitampura Metro station on the Red Line. Another part of it will go toward the upcoming Metro station between Janakpuri West and RK Ashram on the Pink Line.

Officials shared that the skywalk project is expected to cost around Rs 17.5 crore. A proposal has been sent to the minister for approval. The plan says that the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will take charge of the construction, as it is already working on Phase IV of the metro in that area. The PWD will provide the funds for this work.

The skywalk will be built in three parts. One part will connect the two nearby metro stations. Another part will end near Rohini court. The third section will link the road that goes toward Prashant Vihar and Wazirpur, officials said.

Between 2020 and 2023, many accidents happened at Madhuban Chowk. Officials say that nearly 10 people die every year at this spot due to road accidents.

If this project is approved, it will become Delhi’s third skywalk. The first skywalk was built at ITO, connecting Tilak Marg, Pragati Maidan, and the Supreme Court Metro station. The second skywalk was made at South Campus.
