Hyderabad: Massive fire at electronics store in Shalibanda leaves one dead, six injured

Locals suspect that the fire triggered further explosions in a CNG car parked outside the shop as several electronic appliances - washing machines and air conditioners went up in flames.

Hyderabad: At least one person died and six others were injured after a massive fire erupted at Gomathi electronics showroom in Shalibanda, Old city area on Monday night, tv9 telugu reported.

Locals suspect that the fire triggered further explosions in a CNG car parked outside the shop as several electronic appliances - washing machines and air conditioners went up in flames. The blast was so intense that the shop’s metal shutter was blown nearly 100 metres away, shocking passers by. Locals mistook the blast to be a bomb blast due to the loud and intense sound.

Ten fire engines were brought in to get the fire under control.

Five injured, shifted to OGH:

Two workers including the shop owner and three other locals were injured and are in critical condition.  The owner of the shop was identified as Shivkumar Bansal and all the injured have been shifted to Osmania General Hospital for treatment.

Residents in the nearby buildings were evacuated as a precautionary measure. The fire lead to a traffic jam on the route from Charminar to Chandrayangutta and vehicles were stranded.
