Mumbai: A woman, who went to the Santacruz Traffic Department’s towing yard to collect her vehicle, allegedly drove it out without paying the towing fee or the no-parking penalty. While doing so, she almost ran over two constables on Saturday afternoon. An FIR has been filed against her for rash driving, and putting officers at risk.

The case was registered on the complaint of Constable Pravin Dagdu Shewale, who works as the wireless operator at the Santacruz traffic unit. According to the police, the incident took place on November 22 at around 2 pm.

Why was the car towed?

Earlier in the day, a red Kia Sonet had been spotted in a no-parking area near PH Medical on Juhu Tara Road. Head Constable Rathod made several loudspeaker announcements, but nobody came forward. The vehicle was then taken to the towing yard, and an e-challan was issued.

At around 2 pm, the woman arrived at the yard and began arguing with the staff — Ritesh Singh and Raj Yadav of Vidarbha Towing Service — as well as Constable Shingade, demanding her car immediately. She then sat inside the Kia Sonet, started the engine, and attempted to leave.

Attempt to flee without paying fine

When Shewale and Shingade stepped in and told her she needed to finish the formalities and clear the charges first, she allegedly sped the car toward them. Both constables moved out of the way to avoid being hit.

Although staff and officers tried to stop her, the woman drove out of the compound and left the spot. Police later discovered that the vehicle already had 10 pending traffic violations totalling Rs 7,500. Shewale alerted his seniors and provided photographs as evidence. Based on his statement, Santacruz police have registered an FIR and are now searching for the woman.
