Telangana cabinet approves expansion of GHMC

Telangana cabinet has also approved the establishment of another power distribution company apart from TGSPDCL and NPDCL.

Hyderabad: Telangana cabinet has approved the expansion of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation to merge 27 municipalities into GHMC.

In a press conference, Minister Sridhar Babu said that the cabinet has decided top merge the municipalities of Pedda Amberpet, Jalpally, Shamshabad, Turkayamjal, Manikonda, Narsingi, Adibhatla, Medchal, Nagaram, Dammaiguda, Pocharam, Ghatkesar, Gundlapochampally, Thoonkunta, Kompally, Dundigal, Bollaram, Tellapur, Aminpur, Badangpet, Bandlaguda Jagir, Mirpet, Boduppal, Nizampet, Firzadiguda and Jawaharnagar with the GHMC.

Establishment of a third power distribution company:

The minister also said that the cabinet has approved the establishment of another power distribution company (discom).

Lift irrigation connections, Hyderabad Metro Water Supply, agricultural connections, and Mission Bhagiratha connections will come under the purview of the new DISCOM. He said that they discussed the arrangements required to meet the electricity demand in the next ten years. It has been decided to purchase 3,000 megawatts of solar power and tenders will be called for this purpose soon.

Other cabinet decisions:

Purchase of 2,000 MW of pumped storage power and invitation of investment in the pumped storage power sector.

Permission for new industries to generate their own power. Construction of 800 MW plant in Ramagundam under NTPC.

Examination of the possibilities of constructing plants in Palvancha and Maktal.

Dividing Hyderabad into 3 circles and establishing an underground cable power system. Establishment of underground power system along with T-fiber cables

Allocation of 20 acres of land for the establishment of Young India School in Peddanallavelli, Dummugudem mandal, Bhadradri district.

Allocation of 40 acres for a sports school in Jaggannapet, Mulugu district.

Establishment of some more advanced training institutes in the state including Jubilee Hills.
