Mumbai: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) in Mumbai will temporarily suspend operations for six hours on tomorrow on November 20, as a part of its routine post-monsoon maintenance schedule. The airport will remain unavailable for flight movements between 11 AM and 5 PM IST, affecting both arrivals and departures at one of India's busiest aviation hubs.
In an advisory, the airport stated: “As part of the annual post-monsoon maintenance, Mumbai Airport will remain temporarily non-operational on 20 November 2025 from 1100 hrs to 1700 hrs IST. This scheduled closure is essential to ensure continued safety, reliability and compliance with global aviation standards and to enable smooth and safe journeys for all. Thank you for your cooperation.”
Reiterating the planned closure, Mumbai Airport also posted on X: "#MumbaiAirport will observe a scheduled runway closure on 20 November 2025 between 1100 hrs and 1700 hrs IST for annual post-monsoon maintenance. Thank you for your support as we continue to prioritise safe and efficient operations."
Airport authorities confirmed that specialised engineering and airside teams will carry out a detailed inspection of the runway infrastructure during the scheduled shutdown. The teams will examine both micro and macro structural elements of the runway surfaces, which are subject to gradual wear from heavy aircraft operations throughout the year.
CSMIA remains one of the busiest single-runway airports anywhere in the world, facilitating close to 900 daily flight movements. Its airside operations span roughly 1,033 acres, comprising runways, taxiways, aircraft parking bays and support areas that undergo periodic technical checks to maintain safety standards.
Airlines are expected to adjust their schedules in keeping with the temporary shutdown, and passengers have been advised to check with their carriers for updates. The airport management emphasised that such maintenance is a critical part of aviation safety and ensures uninterrupted operations during the rest of the year.
