Mumbai: The city is all set to launch a new drone delivery service that will allow residents to get daily essentials, packages, and e-commerce orders via drones. The service is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026 at the Siddha Sky housing society in Wadala, making it the city’s first-ever residential drone delivery system.

The drone delivery service is a collaboration between Skye Air, a drone delivery company, and a real estate developer focused on creating smart urban living environments. The first delivery infrastructure will be installed at Wadala’s Siddha Sky housing society, where residents will be able to collect their deliveries at a designated "Skye-Pod" zone within the premises.

Drones to deliver essentials in just minutes

According to Skye Air, the drones will be able to cover distances of up to 1 kilometer in just 60 seconds, with a maximum range of 30 kilometers. This means that deliveries will be made directly to residents’ doorsteps in a matter of minutes. Skye Air will use its flagship drone, the Skye Ship One, which can carry up to 10 kilograms per flight.

The drones will fly through specially coordinated drone corridors, called the Skye Tunnel, to ensure safe and efficient delivery. The first phase of the service is expected to start in early 2026, marking Mumbai’s entry into the age of residential drone delivery.

Skye Air has already been operating successfully in other cities like Delhi-NCR and Bengaluru. The company claims to be handling over 200,000 shipments every month across locations in Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Bengaluru. They have also joined hands with other delivery platforms like Bluedart, Flipkart, and Shiprocket.

To cut traffic, pollution

This new initiative is not only about fast deliveries but also about easing the burden on Mumbai’s jam-packed roads. Ankit Kumar, the founder and CEO of Skye Air, described the project as a major milestone for the city. “This is a defining step in revolutionizing deliveries in Mumbai,” Kumar said.

“With cutting-edge skye-pods and AI-driven route optimization through our Skye UTM system, we are setting a new standard for smart urban mobility. This initiative will transform residential complexes into hubs for intelligent logistics, ushering in a new era of smart city infrastructure,” he said.
