Mumbai: The Thane Police have announced traffic diversion on Kalyan-Shilphata Road in view of the ongoing construction of Mumbai Metro Line 12, which will link Kalyan and Taloja. The diversion will last 20 days from November 10 to November 30. According to the traffic department’s notice, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will be installing cement girders between pillars 117 and 189 during these 20 days.
To ensure commuters’ safety and reduce traffic jams on the stretch, the police have planned temporary diversions. As per the notice, vehicles coming from Kalyan Phata towards Kalyan via Sonarpada Chowk and Manpada Chowk will not be allowed to pass near Metro Pillar No 201.
Traffic will be diverted towards Mumbra bypass and nearby connecting roads. Vehicles moving on Kalyan Shil Road towards Kalyan via Metro Pillar No 144 will be diverted to alternative routes.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Pankaj Shirsat has requested all drivers to cooperate with officials and follow the suggested routes to avoid inconvenience. The diversion will remain in effect from 10 am on November 10 until 3:45 am on November 30. Essential services, including police vehicles, ambulances, fire brigades, and other emergency services, will not be affected by these rules.
Authorities have also advised commuters to plan their travel in advance to avoid delays, especially during busy hours. Once the MMRDA’s Metro Line 12 is completed, it is expected to greatly reduce traffic congestion in Thane and improve road connectivity between Kalyan, Dombivli, and Navi Mumbai.
The police department has also confirmed that adequate staff will be deployed on diversion routes to ensure smooth traffic movement throughout the construction period.
