2 domestic helps arrested for stealing gold jewellery from doctor's house in Maharashtra

New Delhi: Two house helps have been arrested for allegedly stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 16.25 lakhs from the house of 61-year-old doctor in Maharashtra's Thane. The female domestic helps stole the ornaments from the doctor's house over the period of nearly three month .

The accused, aged 45 and 21, were working as domestic help at the doctor's house located on Murbad Road in Kalyan near Mumbai. They committed the theft between August and November 11. The duo is residents of Kalyan and Dombivli. Police are yet to ascertain their exact address, according to an official.

A case has been registered against the house helps under relevant sections of law at Mahatma Phule Chowk police station, based on the complaint lodged by the doctor.

“The complainant approached us after noticing that her gold ornaments were missing. The total value of the stolen property has been estimated at Rs 16.25 lakh. We are hopeful of tracing the accused soon,” the official was quoted as saying by PTI.

Further investigation in the case is underway, said police, adding that the female house helps are being interrogated.
