New Delhi: As chaos continues regarding IndiGo flight operations, a total of 104 flights were cancelled at Mumbai airport, including 53 departing flights and 51 arrivals. Passengers were left in a state of despair as the news broke, with some reporting that they received updates either late at night or early in the morning. The cancellations gave them little to no time to make alternative arrangements.
The cancellations caused confusion among domestic travelers, with many flights to key cities either grounded or rescheduled at short notice. As Mumbai airport is one of the busiest in the country, a large number of passengers were left stranded for long hours. Scenes of discomfort, helplessness, and altercations were witnessed throughout the day. The situation worsened as the cancelled flights led to overcrowding at security checks and airline offices, putting additional strain on airport staff.
The situation was further compounded when Akasa Air issued a travel advisory warning passengers about significant technical issues affecting its website and mobile application. According to the advisory, key features such as booking, check-in, and managing bookings would be heavily impacted.
The airline recommended that travelers with urgent plans arrive at the airport early to complete check-in at airline counters. Passengers were also advised to seek assistance from the Akasa Care Center. Akasa Air apologized for the inconvenience and stated that its personnel were working with the service provider to find a quick solution.
According to reports, IndiGo’s on-time performance (OTP) plunged to 19.7 percent. On Tuesday, 65 percent of IndiGo’s 2,200 flights were delayed, while around 50 percent were delayed on Monday. This marks a sharp decline from the airline’s punctuality levels of 84.1 percent in October and 67.7 percent in November.
The delays and cancellations left many passengers stranded at airports for up to 12 hours. Due to a shortage of seating, some travelers were forced to sit on the floor.
