Mumbai: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has shared plans to build a special viewing tower next to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. This new structure will give people a beautiful view of Mumbai's skyline along with the Arabian Sea. As per The Indian Express, the tower will be part of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) project by BMC.
This tower will not just treat sewage, but will also be designed in a way to attract visitors and tourists. It will also highlight BMC’s long journey and work in civic services. The structure will stand 50 metres tall, have an open seating area, and will include ramps and a lift for easy access, as reported.
The ground floor and first floor of the tower will have a learning centre. This part of the building will talk about BMC’s past and its steps towards saving water. Since the tower will be close to the sea link and in a highly sensitive area, the government had earlier allowed the sewage plant only if most of it was built underground.
Because of this rule, important parts of the treatment plant like the membrane tank are being constructed below the ground. The total budget approved for the Bandra STP project is ₹4,300 crore. The entire project, including the tower, is expected to be finished in two years. If all goes as planned, the public will be able to visit the tower by 2027.
At present, there is no viewing tower near Bandra-Worli Sea Link. However, there are many spots nearby from where you one can see excellent views of the bridge. You can enjoy the best views for now from the sea link promenade itself, or from the rocks near the Taj Lands End hotel. Other options are: Sealink View on Mahim Beach near the Mayor's Bungalow, or from the rocks below the fort near the bus stop opposite Taj Lands End according to a travel forum.
Once, the viewing tower near Bandra-Worli Sea Link, it will offer the best view of the sea link, the Arabian Sea and the city’s coastline.
