Case filed after father's complaint

Talking to the media, Arnab Khaire's father, Jitendra Khaire, said, "My son, Arnab Khaire, left for college as usual. He was experiencing severe jolts on the morning train. Talking in Hindi, he told a man to stand a little further. Following this, another passenger slapped Arnab hard near his ear and said, ‘Can't you speak Marathi? Are you ashamed of talking in Marathi?’ My son shared his ordeal with me out of fear."

He added that the fight escalated and a group of passengers on the train thrashed Arnab and also threatened him. He was supposed to get off at Mulund, but got off at Thane because he didn't want to escalate the fight. His father added, "My son also left, but such things should not happen again. There should be no debate over language."

Currently, the police have filed an ADR based on the complaint by the student's father and are investigating the matter.
