New Delhi: Bollywood star Aamir Khan has reportedly stirred up North India’s exhibition circuit with an unexpected move concerning the upcoming Hindi release of Coolie. Despite appearing in the Rajinikanth-starrer only in an extended cameo, the Sitaare Zameen Par actor allegedly stepped into its release strategy and ignited whispers of behind-the-scenes power play in the lead-up to War 2.
According to a Bollywood Hungama report dated August 6, Aamir is said to have directly contacted Ajay Bijli, the head of multiplex giant PVR-Inox, pressing for premium screens and increased visibility for Coolie across North India. What has shocked many is that the actor, who reportedly did the cameo as a goodwill gesture and without remuneration, is now being linked to promotional manoeuvring that insiders claim was never anticipated.
However, Aamir Khan Productions (AKP) has swiftly issued a denial, firmly stating that the actor has played no role in the film’s distribution or exhibition strategy. “Neither Aamir Khan, nor anyone from his team is involved in the distribution of Coolie. Mr Khan has not made any calls to any exhibitor or distributor,” said an official spokesperson. The statement also reiterated that Aamir's appearance was purely out of camaraderie with director Lokesh Kanagaraj and Rajinikanth.
While War 2, featuring Hrithik Roshan, NTR Jr., and Kiara Advani, is being shaped as YRF’s next mega-franchise release, the rumours of Aamir’s alleged call reportedly triggered uncertainty among exhibitors.
Meanwhile, Coolie is helmed by Lokesh and produced by Kalanithi Maran under Sun Pictures and boasts a massive ensemble including Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, and Aamir, among others. It is slated to hit the theatres on August 14 and will clash with Hrithik and Jr NTR’s War 2.
