New Delhi: Do you remember the movie Abir Gulaal of Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor? Yes, the same movie whose release was banned in India due to the film's star cast being from Pakistan. The star cast was Pakistani actor Fawad Khan, and during that time, India was at a state of war with Pakistan due to the Pahalgam terror attack. But now the news is that the film is finally releasing in several countries, but not in India. Dive inside to know the details about the movie.

Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor's movie Abir Gulaal is releasing worldwide in cinemas on August 29, but not in India. A source told the news agency PTI that the film is releasing in 75 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.  The film will be distributed by  Indian Stories Limited in the United Kingdom.

About the movie

The film is directed by Aarti S Bagd and produced by Vivek Agrawal. It stars Vaani Kapoor and Fawad Khan in lead roles. It also features Lisa Haydon, Ridhi Dogra, Parmeet Sethi, and veteran actor Farida Jalal. The movie marked the return of Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in Bollywood, but due to the ban, it couldn't happen. The film is described as a "feel-good, fiery romance about unexpected connections, second chances, and learning to make space for love".

The storyline is about Gulaal, who escapes an arranged marriage and lands in London. She crashes into the life of Aabeer Singh, a guarded restaurateur with a complicated past. Their lives collide through chaos, dance classes, and unexpected late-night rescues. What begins as rivalry slowly simmers into something deeper neither is ready for. But love demands more than chemistry, it asks them both to heal, forgive, and grow, according to the official logline.

Why was the film banned?

The film Abir Gulaal was banned in India because of the terror attack on India's Pahalgam valley by terrorists from Pakistan. This led to the death of 26 people from all over India who came to visit as tourists on April 22. The film was supposed to be released on May 9, but due to terrorist attack by  Pakistani terrorists, many trade organisations, including All Indian Cine Workers Association (AICWA) and the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE), reiterated their call for a ban on Pakistani artists in the Indian film industry.

Fawad Khan and several Pakistani actors, actresses, and other creators' social media handles were banned in India. Accounts of Hania, Mahira Khan, Ali Zafar, Atif Aslam, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan were also blocked in the country.
