Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi summoned by Pune civil court over Jolly LLB 3 - Whats happening?

New Delhi: Actors Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi found themselves in legal soup after a Pune civil court allegedly disrespected the judiciary in their upcoming film, Jolly LLB 3. The summon was also issued to the film’s director, Subhash Kapoor. Now, the court has directed them to appear on October 28.

The complaint was originally filed in 2024 after the release of the film’s first teaser. The petition was filed by the advocate Wajed Rahim Khan, who alleged that the film makes fun of the legal system and disrespects court proceedings.

The petition also states objection on the portrayal of the legal profession. Wajed Khan further alleged that their profession is shown in a negative light and raised concerns over a scene where judges are referred to as "mama”, which is a slang term.

Speaking with the news agency, ANI, Wajed said that there should be respect for the lawyers and hence he has filed the petition in the court. He further added, "Whatever they have shown about the advocates and the judges is wrong... I filed a petition in the Pune court. And the court has asked Akshay Kumar, Arshad Warsi and the director to be present."

Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi-starrer Jolly LLB 3 is third instalment in the legal comedy drama franchise. The first part, Jolly LLB, was headlined by Arshad Warsi and was a sleeper hit in 2013. The film earned Rs 50 crore and was made on a budget of Rs 10 crore. The second instalment, starring Akshay Kumar, was a superhit and earned Rs 200 crore worldwide.

In Jolly LLB 3, both the actors have come together as they reprise roles from their respective movies. Recently, the teaser of the film was released by the makers and was received well by the audiences. It is written and directed by Subhash Kapoor and is produced by Alok Jain and Ajit Andhare under the production banner of Star Studio 18. It is slated to release in theatres on September 19, 2025.
