Mumbai: SS Rajamouli's iconic re-release Baahubali: The Epic registered a decent opening over the weekend. The film earned Rs 6 crore on Sunday, which was day 3. However, the collection at the box office on day 3 was slightly lower compared to the Rs 7.30 crore on Saturday, which in turn was lower than the Rs 9.65 crore recorded on the opening day.
Additionally, the Telugu movie made Rs 1.15 crore from paid previews. Sacnilk reported that the film has grossed an overall of Rs 24 crore, in which the Telugu version of the film earned Rs 18 crore. It was followed by the dubbed Hindi version, which earned Rs 4 crore, and the Tamil version, which made Rs 80 lakh. The Malayalam version of the movie recorded Rs 51 lakh, and the Kannada version made Rs 7 lakh.
The movie has smashed a few records. It is now the biggest Telugu re-release, overtaking the re-release of Trivikram Srinivas’ 2010 action comedy fantasy Khaleja. The movie that starred Mahesh Babu, released on the birthday of his father Krishna, initially recorded Rs 18.08 crore. Later, it recorded another Rs 11 crore. Additionally, Baahubali: The Epic is currently the second-highest-grossing re-release in the south. However, the Telugu movie is likely to beat the Thalapathy Vijay-starrer Ghilli. The movie had initially made Rs 50 crore in 2004. It later made Rs 30 crore at the release.
SS Rajamouli had initially planned to release the two-part Baahubali franchise as a single film. But he ended up releasing it as two films--The Beginning (2015) and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017). With the re-release, he has re-edited the movie and made it into a single film.
The legendary director is set to make a film starring Mahesh Babu and Priyanka Chopra. The first reveal of the film is expected will be made this month.
