Coolie trailer: Rajinikanth goes full throttle in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s blood-soaked revenge saga

New Delhi: The much-anticipated trailer of Coolie was unveiled by Sun Pictures on Saturday (August 2). And with it, Rajinikanth has made a blazing comeback as Deva who is an ageing gold smuggler set on a path of ruthless vengeance. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the action-packed film promises high-octane drama, old-school swagger, and a storyline drenched in stylised chaos.

In the nearly three-minute trailer, viewers were finally offered a deeper look into the murky world of crime and smuggling.

Rajinikanth plays Deva, a gritty, fierce, and unrelenting. He reunites his old mafia crew to reclaim his empire. A plan hatched with stolen tech hidden in vintage golden watches slowly spirals into something far more sinister. “An aging gold smuggler uses stolen tech hidden in vintage golden watches to revive his old mafia crew. Anirudh Ravichander’s pulsating background score paired seamlessly with Rajinikanth’s towering screen presence.

The trailer also gave audiences their first glimpse of Nagarjuna and Shruti Haasan’s characters. The ensemble also includes Aamir Khan, Satyaraj, Upendra, and Shoubin Shahir. The film, though helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, will not be part of his famed Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU) that includes Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo.

Ahead of release, Coolie has been granted an A certificate by the Central Board of Film Certification, signalling intense violence and mature themes. This film also marks Lokesh Kanagaraj’s maiden collaboration with Rajinikanth.

Coolie is slated to hit theatres on August 14, setting the stage for a major box office showdown with Ayan Mukerji’s War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR.
