New Delhi: Indian theatres are witnessing an unprecedented surge in demand, thanks to Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – Infinity Castle. The Japanese anime blockbuster has sparked a historic response at the box office ahead of its release, scheduled for 13 September 2025.

What’s driving the frenzy isn’t just the numbers but the sheer scale of fan enthusiasm. Cinemas have introduced dawn screenings to meet the demand, with shows as early as 5:15 am at Inox Megaplex Pune and 5:20 am at Cinepolis Seawoods in Navi Mumbai. Bengaluru and Delhi are also hosting morning screenings from 6:30 am onwards. It’s the first time a Japanese anime feature has commanded such an early rollout in India, underlining the fever-pitch excitement.

The film, directed by Haruo Sotozaki, has already crossed the one lakh mark in ticket sales for opening day alone. Over 2.5 lakh tickets have been snapped up for the weekend across major chains including PVR, INOX and Cinepolis. With collections surpassing Rs 15 crore gross even before release, the title has already outperformed Suzume and Jujutsu Kaisen 0 in advance sales, becoming the highest-earning non-Hollywood foreign release in India.

The film adapts the widely celebrated Infinity Castle arc from Koyoharu Gotouge’s bestselling manga. Known for its emotionally charged storyline and breathtaking action sequences, the arc has been one of the most anticipated chapters in the Demon Slayer universe. Infinity Castle has been designed as a trilogy, with Part One premiering in Japan earlier this year before its global rollout.

The success comes on the heels of Mugen Train, which shattered records to become one of the highest-grossing anime films globally. Analysts suggest that Infinity Castle could push anime further into the Indian mainstream.

Demon Slayer arcs

The full Demon Slayer saga is already available to stream in India on Netflix and Crunchyroll. Fans can revisit Tanjiro Kamado’s journey through all four arcs, including Kimetsu no Yaiba, Mugen Train, Entertainment District Arc, and Swordsmith Village Arc, before diving into the explosive Infinity Castle storyline.
