New Delhi: Karan Johar’s next production venture, Dhadak 2’s trailer, was launched on Friday (July 11). Starring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi in lead roles, the movie is directed by Shazia Iqbal and will hit the silver screen on August 1. In an interaction with the media, filmmaker and producer Karan spoke about the delayed release of Dhadak 2, staying single and more.

Karan spoke about the delay in the release of the film due to censorship issues. He stated, "Dhadak 2 is a mainstream, intense love story, but it’s also saying something important. I’ve never let fear hold me back as an artist, because the moment you let fear dictate your choices, you stop growing. As the saying goes, ‘if you have a choice, choose to fight.’ And for me, the best fight is fought through storytelling.”

He added, "Yes, it took us a while to reach cinemas, but even the censor board was very understanding. They were compassionate, and they respected what we were trying to say. We, in turn, respected their perspective. There were no compromises made. The story you will see on August 1 is exactly how Shazia Iqbal wanted it to be told.”

Why is Karan Johar single?

When asked about why Karan chooses to be single at the age of 53, he jokingly revealed, "Dekho, yeh meri aisi umar hai na. Na marne ki, na ladte phirne ki. Yeh meri jeene ki umar hai. Aur main bhaat thak chuka hoon. Ab pyaar ke liye ya ladne phirne ke liye woh energy nahi bachi. Jo hona tha, ho chuka. Ab agar kuch ho jaye, to very good. Energy na aaye, to bas samjho KBC ke jaise mere bhi chaar options hain.”

The filmmaker also spoke about the reason behind halting press screenings before the release of his films. He set the record straight on appreciating the media for their contribution, and also said that he was open to criticism. "My main issue was with the embargo. While watching the film, I noticed that on social media, the embargo was being subtly broken. People weren’t posting full reviews, but they were hinting at their opinions or suggesting something about the film. Even if indirect, that still amounts to breaking the embargo. And that, honestly, upset me. Both personally and as a filmmaker and studio head."
