Dhurandhar wave to crush Sholay comeback and Kapil Sharma’s KKPK 2, says expert | EXCLUSIVE

With Dhurandhar dominating its second week, industry experts predict a challenging box-office landscape for the Sholay re-release and Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2. In this exclusive breakdown, analysts explain why strong competition, audience preferences, and release timing may drastically impact both films' opening numbers.

Box office prediction: As a brand new weekend approaches, the box office narrative is witnessing domination by Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar. The Aditya Dhar directorial has continued its strong run well into its second week. While audiences are still turning up in large numbers for the spy thriller, industry insiders believe the film’s momentum is set to impact every new release arriving in cinemas this Friday, including Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 and the re-release of the iconic Sholay.

Speaking exclusively to TV9 English, film exhibitor and distributor Raj Bansal gave a clear-eyed prediction of how the week is likely to unfold. He began by noting the steady performance of Tere Ishq Mein, which continues to draw viewers. "As for Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 and the other films opening tomorrow, Tere Ishk Mein is performing very well. It should comfortably hit Rs 100 crore today. That’s a big achievement.”

However, Bansal was far less optimistic about Kapil Sharma’s comedy sequel. "But Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 won’t really take off. I don’t have high expectations. It should open in the Rs 1–1.5 crore range,” he said, adding that even a modest start can be considered decent, but the long-term outcome depends entirely on content. "Should comedians or stand-up artists like Kapil Sharma do films like these? Look, even a Rs 1–1.5 crore opening is good. But after that, it depends entirely on what the film offers.”

Turning to Dhurandhar, Bansal highlighted how audiences have driven its success through word of mouth. "Dhurandhar didn’t open well today, but once audiences saw what the film had inside, it stabilised and held strongly. That’s what matters.”

Sholay re-release box office prediction

The conversation then shifted to one of India’s most celebrated classics, Sholay. Its re-release, Bansal suggested, is unlikely to generate any significant traction. "Sholay? I have no hopes. It doesn’t make sense. There’s no buzz around the re-release.”

He further explained that timing played a major role in this prediction. "The date is completely wrong. They should’ve released it when there were no other films around. Right now, Dhurandhar is extremely strong in its second week, more movies are releasing, and Tere Ishk Mein is trending well. Audiences have choices.”

Bansal also shared his personal viewing priority: "If I had to choose today: my first choice would be Dhurandhar, second Tere Ishk Mein, third Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, and fourth Sholay.

With Dhurandhar retaining a firm grip on the market, the coming weekend looks set to test whether nostalgia will shape box office choices.
