New Delhi: This August begins with two big Bollywood releases, Dhadak 2 and Son of Sardaar 2. While one is a romantic drama starring Siddhant Chaturvedi and Triptii Dimri, and the other is a comedy drama starring Ajay Devgn and Mrunal Thakur. The buzz around both the movies is quite decent. Both the movies are set to release on August 1.
Dhadak 2, directed by Shazia Iqbal, is an inter-caste love story. On the other hand, Son of Sardaar 2, directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, revolves around Jassi, who travels to Scotland and gets entangled in a mob conflict amid a chaotic Sikh wedding. Now, let’s explore how both the movies are expected to flare at the box office.
Trade analyst Akshaye Rathi spoke exclusively to TV9 English Digital and said, “In this day and age, it's become really tough to put a figure to the kind of openings that I expected of films for the simple reason that the audience clearly has a tendency to surprise and shock you every now and then. I mean I can bet on this, Yash Raj Films didn't expect a lifetime figure from Saiyaara which was probably lesser than what its opening weekend turned out to be and then there's so many films in recent times where they hoped they would go ballistic and they just failed that beyond the point.”
“So we can just hope that Dhadak 2 and Son of Sardaar 2 will both open well to good numbers and appeal to new audiences and compliment Saiyaara, which is already doing very well at the box office. Also, F1 which is coming back to IMAX and is doing great consistent numbers because this momentum of the people coming to the cinema halls is something that we need to see carried over with most films,” he further added.
Akshaye Rathi opined, “Both are sequels to films that did extremely well in the past and all of us are hoping that the momentum that's come into play with Saiyaara and a few other recent hits continues to enthrall people and bring them to cinemas in big numbers for Son of Sardaar 2, Dhadak 2 and everything else that comes along over the next few months.”
According to trade expert Sumit Kadel quoted by the Republic, Dhadak 2 is expected to collect Rs 3 to Rs 3.5 crore opening at the ticket window while Son of Sardaar 2 is likely to mint Rs 3.50 to Rs 4.50 crore at the box office.
When asked if Dhadak 2 will benefit from romantic drama Saiyaara, Akshaye Rathi shared, “I don't think any advantage from the momentum of a genre that a particular film is, can do anything for any other film which doesn't have great entertainment value. So, Dhadak 2 and Son of Sardaar 2 will run or fail on the merits or demerits of their own rather than the, you know, wave of the films that are running or the genres that are running, be it Saiyaara or be it, you know, any of the recent films that have done well. So I'm pretty confident that both of these films are entertaining in their own way, are engaging in their own way.”
