Backed by Netflix and supported by his long-time collaborators, Single Papa brings together humour, heart, and a touch of real-life experience. Producer Samar Khan says Single Papa was a project he “felt compelled to tell, both creatively and personally.” Calling it a “rare opportunity,” he said that working with Netflix was “a dream for any producer. They stood firmly by the show,” Khan said proudly.

“Comedy is one of the toughest genres to back, but they believed in the idea and supported it wholeheartedly.”The show also reunited Khan with screenwriter and co-creator Ishita Moitra, who previously worked with him on The Test Case (2017), one of India’s early OTT successes. “We had always wanted to work together again,” Khan said, adding that his long-standing friendship with co-creator Neeraj Udhwani made the process even smoother.

But what makes Single Papa truly special for Khan is the emotional connection behind it. “Fifteen years ago, I had filed a petition in the Bombay High Court to adopt a child as a single man, but it was rejected,” he revealed. “I was told that a single man cannot adopt. So when Ishita and Neeraj came to me with this story, I instantly felt a personal connection, and I knew that I wanted to tell this story.''

”For Khan, the project also felt like a reunion of familiar faces and memories. “Shashank Khaitan was once my student at Whistling Woods International. I met Kunal (Kemmu) when I was a journalist, and he was a child actor. I’ve admired Manoj Sir (Pahwa) for years and known Neha Dhupia and Ayesha Ma’am (Raza) socially,” he shared. Reflecting on the collaboration, Khan said, “When so many familiar and talented people come together, you know the energy will translate into something wonderful on screen. That collective spirit is what has brought Single Papa to life.”
