Fraud case filed against Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh for duping Varanasi man of Rs 1.57 crore

New Delhi: Troubles seem to not end soon for Bhojpuri star Pawan Singh. The actor has landed in a legal trouble after facing massive backlash over inappropriately touching actress Anjali during a live event. A Rs 1.57 crore fraud case has been filed against the actor at the Varanasi Cantt police station on the orders of the Chief Judicial Magistrate.

The actor along with Premshankar Rai, his wife Seema Rai, and director Arvind Choubey, has been booked for cheating a hotel businessman.

The hotel businessman accused Pawan Singh and three others of cheating him by promising investment in a Bhojpuri film. Now, a case has been registered under sections 420, 406, 467, 468 and 506 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Th businessman Vishal Singh is a native of Nati Imli in Varanasi. He has alleged that he met Premshankar Rai and his wife, who convinced him to invest around Rs 1.57 crore in a Bhojpuri film assuring that the money would be returned with profit.

After being convinced, he deposited around Rs 32.60 lakh in instalments into their account and around Rs 1.25 crore was spent on shooting and post-production of the film. However, the money or the profits were not given to Vishal.

He further accused them of forging documents to show Vishal as the producer of the film and started to ghost him when he demanded his money back. He also alleged that actor Pawan Singh threatened to kill him.

After hearing his application, the court directed to register a case and launch an investigation.

Recently, Pawan Singh sparked a controversy after his video touching his co-actor Anjali “inappropriately” went viral on social media. Anjali reacted to the incident and said that it made her feel “uneasy”. Later, Pawan Singh issued a public apology. The matter has now reached the Women’s Commission. It said in a statement, “This is not right behaviour towards women. It insults women and raises serious questions on the credibility of the film industry.”
