Jana Nayagan release: As anticipation peaks for Jana Nayagan, fans of superstar Vijay are gearing up for a massive, carefully organised celebration ahead of the film’s theatrical release on January 9, 2026. The Tamil-language political action thriller has already become one of the most awaited releases of the year, not least because it marks Vijay’s final film before his full-time entry into politics.
Fan associations across Tamil Nadu have drawn up an elaborate celebration plan to mark the release. The festivities will begin with special poojas at temples, where fans will seek blessings for the film’s success. Several theatres and key public locations will be decked with banners and posters, turning release day into a visual spectacle.
Lucky draws, DJ music and more
Large Thalapathy Vijay selfie cut-outs will be installed for public interaction, allowing fans to take photos and mark the moment. Signature banners thanking Vijay for his cinematic journey are also part of the plan, reflecting the emotional weight surrounding the film. DJ music and firecrackers will accompany early morning shows, creating a festival-like atmosphere.
Celebrations will also include cake-cutting ceremonies at theatres to officially mark the release of Jana Nayagan. Fans plan to distribute themed pocket calendars for 2026, along with thank-you cards for supporters and organisers. Lucky draws are being arranged, with three gifts per screen promised for audiences. Directed by H. Vinoth, Jana Nayagan stars Vijay as an ordinary man who rises as a symbol of resistance against corruption and injustice. The film also features Bobby Deol, Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Prakash Raj, Priyamani and Gautham Vasudev Menon. Anirudh Ravichander has composed the music, while KVN Productions has backed the project with an estimated budget of Rs 300 crore.
However, the release faces uncertainty in India due to a pending censorship issue. The Central Board of Film Certification has delayed clearance, leading to an ongoing legal battle in the Madras High Court over objections related to religious sentiments and the depiction of the armed forces. Despite this, the film has received a "15” rating from the British Board of Film Classification for strong bloody violence.
Advance bookings in Tamil Nadu remain on hold, but overseas pre-sales have reportedly crossed Rs 35 crore. Reports also suggest that Amazon Prime Video has acquired the post-theatrical streaming rights for over Rs 100 crore.
