Mumbai: Kantara Chapter 1 has surpassed Chhaava to become the highest-grossing Indian film of 2025. Rishab Shetty's masterpiece, on Wednesday, crossed Rs 800 crore at the box office worldwide.
The film's production house, Hombale Films, reported that the movie earned more than Rs 717 crore worldwide in the first two weeks. In the week that followed, it added Rs 38 crore net in India. Later, in just 6 days, it added Rs 92 crore gross worldwide, totalling the earnings to Rs 809 crore worldwide.
Meanwhile, some sources state Rishab Shetty's periodic action movie is a little behind from breaking Chhaava’s record. According to Sacnilk, Kantara Chapter 1 has gathered around Rs 775 crore after 21 days. An English version of the film is set to release later this month.
Films in the highest-grossing list in 2025
Kantara Chapter 1 and Chaava are followed by Saiyaara, which grossed Rs 576 crore worldwide. The Mohit Suri movie is followed by Rajinikanth’s Coolie, which earned Rs 500 crore. In the fifth spot is Yash Raj Films’ thriller War 2 with a total collection of 365 crore. Other films on the list, Mahavatar Narsimha, OG, and Lokah Chapter 1, have crossed Rs 300 crore.
Rishab Shetty's Kantara Chapter 1 is the sequel to his 2022 blockbuster Kantara. After KGF Chapter 2, the Kantara sequel is the highest-grossing Kannada film.
Jayaram, Gulshan Devaiah, and Rukmini Vasanth are other leads in the movie. The movie garnered the praise of many.
