New Delhi: Legendary Italian designer Giorgio Armani, a stalwart of Milan ready-to-wear who revolutionised fashion, has passed away at the age of 91. He breathed his last at his home, and his passing has left the fashion fraternity mourning. Giorgio Armani was the founder of the high-end fashion house Armani.
In a statement, his fashion house said, “With infinite sorrow, the Armani Group announces the passing of its creator, founder, and tireless driving force: Giorgio Armani.”
Legendary fashion designer Giorgio Armani, one of the biggest names in the world of fashion, died at the age of 91. His name was synonyms to modern Italian style and elegance.
The company’s statement further read, “In this company, we have always felt like part of a family. We, the employees and the family members, who have always worked alongside Mr. Armani, commit to protecting what he built and to carrying his company forward in his memory, with respect, responsibility, and love.”
Armani had been unwell for quite some time and was forced to drop out of his group’s shows at Milan Men’s Fashion Week in June. Known as ‘Re Giorgia’, the designer was known for overseeing every details of his collection.
In 2019, Armani was honoured with the Outstanding Achievement Award at The Fashion Awards for his “outstanding contribution to the global fashion industry, his creativity and vision of timeless style and care for detail, which have provided such inspiration to so many in the industry.”
Taking to Instagram, Sonam Kapoor and Rhea Kapoor remembered the fashion mogul.
According to the Armani fashion house, the funeral chamber will be set up from Saturday, September 6, to Sunday, September 7, and will be open from 9 am to 6 pm.
