New Delhi: The mythological horror, Maa, starring Kajol, Ronit Roy, and Indraneil Sengupta, is all set for its digital debut after its theatrical release. Produced by Ajay Devgn under the banners of Devgn films and Jio Studios, the film was praised for its VFX and action sequences.
The movie performed decently at the box office with collection Rs 51.64 crore globally, and Rs 38.63 crore in India. The film made India gross of Ars 45.58 crore and its overseas collection stands at Rs 6.45 crore. It had a decent opening weekend but witnessed decline due to mixed reviews and competition from other theatrical releases.
Maa OTT release date
Mythological horror film, Maa, will reportedly premiere on the online streaming giant, Netflix from August 22, 2025. However, an official announcement from the platform or the makers of the movie is still awaited. The film wads released in theatres on June 27, 2025.
Maa plot
Set in Chandanpur, West Bengal, the story of Maa revolves around a mother’s battle against supernatural forces threatening her daughter’s life. The story is loosely inspired with the legend of Goddess Kali and Raktabija and explores themes of mother’s love, sacrifice and divine power.
The legend of Goddess Kali and Raktabija narrates a fierce battle between Kali and Raktabija where Kali defeats the demon by drinking his blood to prevent his countless duplicates being created with his each blood drop.

Apart from Kajol, the film also stars Yaaneea Bharadwaj, Ronit Roy, Indraneil Sengupta, Surjasikha Das, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Vibha Rani and Gopal Singh, among others.
Maa movie review
According to our review, Maa is a visually gripping film with strong performances and rich mythological roots, but it lacks the horror elements. The big let down in the film is its regressive approach towards gender issues and somewhat predictable storyline.
