New Delhi: Former Bollywood actress Mamta Kulkarni recently created a big controversy when she said that the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim "is not a terrorist” and did not carry out the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. These blasts killed hundreds of people, and Dawood is a main accused.
Many people criticised her strongly. However, Mamta soon said that she was misunderstood and explained that her comment was about someone else.
Mamta Kulkarni said Dawood Ibrahim is not a terrorist
Mamta Kulkarni, now a spiritual follower, made the controversial statement during a press meet in Gorakhpur this week, saying, "Dawood Ibrahim did not carry out the Mumbai blasts and is not a terrorist,” according to PTI reports. This shocked many as Dawood is blamed for the 1993 Mumbai blasts, in which 257 people died and more than 1000 were hurt.
After receiving heavy backlash on social media, Mamta made a clear statement on Thursday in Gorakhpur. She said, "I was referring to Vicky Goswami, not Dawood Ibrahim. Dawood is indeed a terrorist.” Vicky Goswami is a person arrested for drug trafficking and had links with Mamta before.
Mamta also denied any connection with Dawood Ibrahim or any anti-national elements. She said, "I have never met Dawood and have no association with him. I have no connection with politics or the film industry now. I am completely devoted to spirituality. As a staunch follower of Sanatan Dharma, I can't have any association with anti-national elements.”

She also faced legal troubles when she was named in a Rs 2000 crore international drug case in 2016.
