New Delhi: Actor Yami Gautam is all set to star in the new courtroom drama film Haq, which is based on the famous Shah Bano case. The film will hit theatres on November 7. Yami has revealed interesting details about the film's censorship status in the UAE, saying it faced no cuts and is suitable for viewers aged 15 and above.
She also emphasised that the film is not meant to offend any faith and tells a larger story about justice. Dig in for more details.
Yami Gautam shared that Haq faced no censorship issues in the UAE. Speaking with Times Now, she said, "This is the first time I am sharing, ki is film ko (this film) UAE main in terms of censorship, there are no cuts, and it is 15 plus. Meaning it is watchable for all. Toh agar waha koi problem nahi hai (If there are no problems there) that means this film is not here to antagonise anyone from any faith."
About the film’s message, Yami added, "Isse bada evidence at least bethe bethe bina film release ke toh dena thoda mushkil hai (It is difficult to give bigger evidence without watching the film). You are not making a film about one community." She further stressed that the film "isn't here to antagonise anyone from any faith."
The film is inspired by the landmark Shah Bano Begum case, a legal battle that began in 1978 and ended in 1985 with a Supreme Court ruling. This judgement stated that Muslim women were entitled to maintenance under the law, a decision that had a big impact on Indian legal history.
Yami plays the role of Shazia Bano, while Emraan Hashmi plays her husband, lawyer Abbas Khan. The film is directed by Suparn Varma and is based on Jigna Vora's book Bano: Bharat Ki Beti, which dramatises the events of the case.
Alongside Yami and Emraan, Haq also stars Sheeba Chaddha and Vartika Singh. The film is produced by Junglee Pictures, in association with Insomnia Films and Baweja Studios. It promises to be a thought-provoking courtroom drama tackling a sensitive and important subject.
