New Delhi: The film Bengal Files has already created a lot of controversy after its trailer release event in West Bengal. Amid all this, a new controversy has again erupted as the actor of the film, Saswata Chatterji, spoke about the matter. What exactly did he say, and why has his point become a big deal? Here's everything you need to know.

Actor Saswata Chatterji spoke to The Wall about the controversy and backlash surrounding the film. He said, "I am just an actor. I liked a character and I played it. I am not a historian to think about what history says, and this is distorting history. It's not my job. If those whose job it is feel that Bengal is being belittled, then they can go to court with the information. There is no point in just making noise."

He also said that he was completely unaware of the film's title change. As earlier, the film was named Delhi Files, but later it was changed to The Bengal Files. When he was asked what he thinks about the film's lower chances of releasing in West Bengal, he replied, "I am just an actor. I liked a character and I played it. I am not a historian to think about what history says, and this is distorting history. It's not my job. If those whose job it is feel that Bengal is being belittled, then they can go to court with the information. There is no point in just making noise."

The actor gave all these remarks just days after the controversy erupted, and the film's trailer launch was cancelled by the authorities. This controversy flared more after Vivek Agnihoti called fascist to the Mamata Banerjee-led TMC government. This statement was not said directly, but it was targeted in a way that the message was very clear.
