New Delhi: Cinematographer Prem Sagar passed away on Sunday (August 31) at 10 am. he was best known for the iconic television show Ramayan, directed by Ramanand Sagar. He graduated from FTII graduate with 1998. He was the photographer of many films produced under the banner of Sagar Arts. His last two serials were Kaambhushundi Ramayan and Kaamdhenu Gaumata. The producer wasn't well for a month. His last rites will be performed at Pawan Hans Crematorium.
Ramanand Sagar's son Prem Sagar breathed his last on Sunday (August 31) after prolonged illness. His prayer meet will be held on September 3. Shiv Sagar, son of Prem Sagar, revealed that the late producer was battling with colon cancer.
Remembering his father, producer Shiv Sagar said in a statement, “He was diagnosed with colon cancer a month ago and was undergoing treatment. He returned home on Saturday and passed away peacefully on Sunday 31st August on the 5th day of the Ganesh festival. Prem ji was like his name—full of love and emotions. He was a doting father, yet strict when needed."
"The camera was simply an extension of his hand. In spite of being an ace cinematographer and even directing a movie with Jeetendra ji and Hema Malini, he started the television wing of Sagar Arts with Vikram Aur Betaal, which was the precursor to Ramayan (1987). Later, he became the marketing director of Sagar Arts and traveled the world more than 20 times. Prem ji was always very original and embraced new technology. He loved our recently released sow Kamdhenu Gamata. He even visited the set couple of times when we were shooting for it," he added.
Vindu Dara Singh also paid his tribute and shared, "Life goes on, and the great men go to but the legacy lives on! Prem ji was a pillar in the making of the Ramayana by Ramanand Sagar ji, and we are blessed to be very close to the entire family! He had given me a signed copy of his book, An Epic Life, which I cherish, and may the family have the strength to bear this huge loss!"
