Mumbai: Rishab Shetty, attending the Behindwoods event in Chennai, revealed how he feels when people enact his onscreen scenes related to sacred traditions. The actor and director stated that it makes him feel uncomfortable. Rishab's response comes after Ranveer Singh faced massive backlash for his Kantara mimicry on the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) stage in Goa.
"That makes me uncomfortable. While much of the film is cinema and performance, the Daiva element is sensitive and sacred. Wherever I go, I request people not to perform it on stage or mock it. It is emotionally deeply connected to us," said Rishab. Though he did not take Ranveer's name, his message clearly showcased his stand relating to the incident.
Further, Rishab detailed the extensive efforts taken by the team of Kantara: A Legend Chapter 1 to maintain the authenticity of the local beliefs and practices. He stated that he wanted the audience to understand the significance of these rituals.
The Kantara mimicry row happened after Ranveer tried to imitate the Daiva scene on stage at the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India on November 30. A video of the incident went viral, causing massive outrage.
Social media users were livid at Ranveer and demanded an apology. They even urged each other to boycott Dhurandhar.
"Boycott the upcoming Ranveer Singh movie Dhurandhar. He should not make fun of the Goddess and Daivasa," said one. Another commented, "This is why everyone despises those fools who gained attention before the pandemic and still cling to their fame from Kachrawood. What a foolish person he is."
Soon after, the actor issued an apology. He stated, "My intention was to highlight Rishabh's incredible performance in the film. Actor to actor, I know how much it would take to perform that particular scene in the way that he did, for which he has my utmost admiration. I have always deeply respected every culture, tradition and belief in our country. If I've hurt anyone's sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”
