Aaron Sorkin’s fiery dialogue and Rob Reiner’s taut direction shine, while Jack Nicholson’s explosive turn as Colonel Jessep delivers the film’s legendary “You can’t handle the truth!” moment, cementing its iconic status.

2. Misery (1990)

Kathy Bates delivers an Oscar-winning performance as Annie Wilkes, a deranged fan who imprisons novelist Paul Sheldon (James Caan) after rescuing him from a car crash. Based on Stephen King’s novel, this chilling psychological thriller mixes horror and dark humour, charting a terrifying battle of wits between creator and admirer.

3. The American President (1995)

Michael Douglas charms as a widowed U.S. President who falls for a spirited lobbyist (Annette Bening) amid political scrutiny. Aaron Sorkin’s witty, elegant script blends romance and politics, creating a sharp, feel-good modern fairy tale. With stellar support from Martin Sheen and Michael J. Fox, it’s polished, heartfelt entertainment.

4. The Bucket List (2007)

Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman play terminally ill men embarking on a globe-trotting quest to complete their “bucket list.” Though sentimental and formulaic, this buddy comedy’s charm lies in its leads’ chemistry—Nicholson’s flamboyance balanced by Freeman’s quiet warmth—offering audiences a touching meditation on friendship, mortality, and living fully.

5. The Sure Thing (1985)

John Cusack stars as an impulsive college student on a cross-country trip to meet “a sure thing” but finds unexpected romance with his uptight car-mate, played by Daphne Zuniga.
